We missed filming with Michelle while she was on maternity leave so she has shared some of her insights with us below:
Introduce yourself – name & role
I’m Michelle Benedict and I’m the Finance Manager at Balance.
Why litigation funding?
I had never heard of litigation funding before joining Balance, but now I’ve been in the space for a few years, I can honestly say it’s incredible. Being able to provide access to justice for those unable to fight the Goliath companies on their own is truly life changing for many people, and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of those stories.
What are you responsible for?
I am responsible for all things finance across the Group – from the Group audit, regulatory and tax filings, to the cash flow forecasting, case modelling, and ongoing investment monitoring, as well as any ad hoc analysis that the rest of the team may need. Outside of work, I am responsible for a tiny dictator that demands an entire punnet of grapes for breakfast every morning, also known as my two year old son who has the cheekiest smile so can get away with anything.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Own a cafe? so that I can drink tea and bake cakes every day, or go sailing around the world.
What are you reading?
The last book I read was The Lucky Ride by Yasushi Kitagawa.
What advice would you give to your younger self starting out your career?
Trust yourself, you’re not the only one with imposter syndrome!
