Balance Legal Capital is pleased to announce its continuing expansion, with the appointment of former Freshfields managing partner/head of disputes and One Essex Court mediator, Ian Terry, to its Investment Committee.

Ian’s addition further bolsters an experienced team, comprising former Herbert Smith senior partner, Lord Gold, and an array of litigation-arbitration specialists drawn from Herbert Smith Freehills and Freshfields.

During his illustrious 38 year career at Freshfields, Ian has acted on some of the highest profile disputes of the day. His wide-ranging experience covers litigation and arbitration across a broad range of business sectors, courts and jurisdictions.  For a number of years, Ian was one of the select few litigators awarded the top ranking by Chambers. He retired from Freshfields in 2016.

Managing Partner of Balance, Robert Rothkopf, said “We’re thrilled to welcome Ian to the Investment Committee.  Ian’s expertise and laser-sharp focus are powerful resources – not just for our investment selection, but also for clients seeking a second view from seasoned senior litigators at the top of their game.”

Ian Terry said “I’m delighted to join the outstanding team at Balance Legal Capital and the fascinating world of litigation finance. I look forward to contributing to Balance’s mission to help litigants and law firms share risk, and to collaborating with such an impressive group of lawyers.”
